New MEC Avalanche Safety Grant From Avalanche Canada

Avalanche Canada is proud to announce the MEC Avalanche Safety Grant. This grant is aimed at non-profit organizations that serve racialized communities, and will enable more BIPOC/racialized folks to safely learn about and access the winter backcountry. Thanks to the generous support of MEC, funds will be provided for up to four Avalanche Skills Training (AST 1) courses in British Columbia and Alberta, for up to eight students per course. The courses will take place between December 15, 2021 – March 31, 2022. AST 1 courses can be ski/splitboard, snowmobile, or snowshoe specific.  Backcountry Access (BCA) has also contributed by providing two AvCan avalanche Tool Boxes (each with eight sets of avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes). We thank both MEC and BCA for their support of this important initiative. If you are interested in contributing or learning more, please contact Jennifer George at Avalanche Canada at
