Snowarama Survey Winner

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Snowarama Survey! Congratulations to the lucky survey participant Clayton Prince on winning the gas card!

Snowarama season has come upon us. The BCSF is encouraging all clubs to find a way to participate – whether you have a lot of volunteers and can put on a big event or if you only have one or two volunteers. We have options that will work for you. Just think how good it will feel to know you are helping children with disabilities – what a way to start off the new year!

Special Avalanche Warning for BC’s South Coast Mountains

Weak layer in the snowpack combines with Christmas holidays

Dec 17, 2009, Revelstoke, BC: The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) is issuing a special avalanche warning for the mountainous backcountry areas of BC’s South Coast. The warning is in effect from Friday December 18 through to December 21. Snow from recent storms is resting on a unusually weak layer within the snowpack. This, coupled with warming temperatures, is creating a situation where it will likely be very easy to trigger avalanches large enough to injure a person.
