South Peace Snowmobile Development Master Plan Identifies a Needed Investment of 15 Million Dollars

April 26, 2023

Keremeos, BC (APRIL 25 2023) --  The BC Snowmobile Federation has completed the South Peace Snowmobile Development Master Plan Project and the report has identified $15 million dollars in needed investment for snowmobile infrastructure and development for the South Peace Region to reach its potential.  This Plan was developed after the Winter Motorized Recreation Management Plan was implemented in the Region to close areas to snowmobiling to protect caribou habitat.  The Master Plan identifies opportunities for investment in areas that remain open to snowmobiling to ensure there are quality snowmobile recreation opportunities for the people in the South Peace while also identifying areas for sustainable snowmobile tourism to grow in the region.

Our member clubs located in the South Peace including the Tumbler Ridge Ridge Riders Snowmobile Association, Pine Valley Trail Blazers (Chetwynd) and the Rocky Mountain Riders (Mackenzie) have worked with their members to identify these key projects and needed investments.  Today they have also taken the first step to implement the plan which is to hire an administrative snowmobile club coordinator for the region to assist with its implementation and to assist the BC Snowmobile Federation and our member clubs in seeking additional funding to make it a reality.

The BC Snowmobile Federation is a non-profit society created in 1965 to establish, maintain and protect quality opportunities for organized snowmobiling in BC. The BCSF collectively represents 60 snowmobile clubs and 44,000 riders in the Province of BC.  On the ground, our member clubs are non-profit societies maintained by caring volunteers who promote safety, stewardship, and responsible backcountry snowmobile recreation.
